Community radios in Nepal have observed this year’s World Radio Day by organizing National Community Radio Conference in Kathmandu. Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) Nepal, an umbrella organization of 300 community radios in Nepal has hosted the national conference on February 13 on the auspicious occasion of World Radio Day 2017. Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Rt. Honorable Puspa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, Prime Minister of Nepal which is attended by two hundred community radio journalists, media professionals, development practitioners and academicians.
ACORAB Nepal has been celebrating the World Radio Day as an auspicious program every year on 13th February from the beginning. This year also, ACORAB has celebrated the World Radio Day by organizing the conference in collaboration with UNESCO Office in Kathmandu with slogan "Radio is You!”. Other development partners such as The Asia Foundation Nepal, OXFAM, World Vision International Nepal and CARE Nepal have also supported to organize this conference.
Conference consisted segments of discussions and presentations from community radio journalists, news editors, development communication experts and parliamentarians. Actions points were developed on the basis of the conclusions of discussions which is also endorsed by community radio broadcasters and journalists at the end of the conference to make community radio broadcasting more participatory and inclusive.
