An interaction program was organized by Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) Nepal and Community Information Network-CIN on the issues of Madhesh with the Madheshis' Intellectuals in Kathmandu. The objective of the meeting was to identify prioritized social issues of Madesh to incorporate in CIN’s regular broadcasting. Senior journalists, civil society stakeholders and activists largely working on the issues of Madhesh have participated in the interaction program.
In the discussion, Dr. Rajesh Ahiraj complained about the biasness of national media for portrayal of negative picture of Madhesh through publication and broadcasting of negative news. In addition, Mr. Ganesh Kumar Mandal said country is mostly dependent on Madhesh from the perspective of source of income and population but still it is being neglected from the national media. He suggested the necessity to change the attitude towards the Madheshis and Madhes to maintain peace and harmony in the country.' Next speaker Ms. Rita Sah said people create a kind of perception about the Madhes on the basis of news, so that, media should be accountable and responsible for their act.Interaction program identified major issues such as caste based discrimination, gender based discrimination, illiteracy and dowry systems in Madhesh. Participants have appreciated the involvement of Community Information Network-CIN and other community radios to aware people about the issues and suggested to continuously focus on these issues.
