The awareness and information to the people is the fundamental reasons of any development success and same applies in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). To disseminate the core messages of each goal and indicator in Nepal, the community radios are right means for broadcasting. The community radios have privilege of broadcasting core messages in local dialects, including the people left behind. Community radios are also connecting community people with government, development agencies and policy makers by multiple communication systems. In this regards ACORAB, in partnership with UNDP Nepal working on accelerating SDG implementation through community radio network.
In this view, ACORAB organized a 2 days training to the community radio journalists on 30-31 July 2019 in Bhaktapur. The major objective of the training was to sensitize on the concept of SDG and current initiatives for implementing SDG in Nepal and to develop the capacity of local journalists for SDG related reporting and information dissemination. Hon. Vice Chairperson of National Planning Commission had presented his remarks during the opening session of the training and expressed his commitment to work jointly with ACORAB on localization of SDG.
30 participants from 30 community radio from all 7 provinces participated in the training program. Mr. Subas Khatiwada, Chairperson of ACORAB, Mr. Yam Nath Sharma of UNDP, Ms. Sharmila Karki of National Planning Commission, Mr. Balkrishna Pokhrel, Mr. Deepak Acharya, Mr. Shreedhar Neupane and Mr. Govinda Khadka of ACORAB and Mr. Soham Subedi were facilitated the different sessions. The participants selected different issues and theme for SDG reporting and prepared the action plan for the same.
