ACORAB in partnership with world vision international conducted one day capacity building training for journalist on ending child marriage on 6 september 2019. The whole day session was focused on ending child marriage.
There were different sessions by different facilitators.First session was facilitated by the senior journalist Babita Basnet on 'Role of journalist to disseminate information about child marriage, current laws and policies regarding child marriage and way of making stakeholders more accountable in the issues'.
She focused her class on current laws and acts of Nepal regarding the ending child marriage.
The second session was facilitated by president of ACORAB, Subas Khatiwada: He first shared the information about the campaign against the child marriage by ACORAB/CIN and community radios of the country which can be the learning for other media. Community radio movement against child marriage is an example in the country he said. He further added that all journalists can play role on this campaign.
The third session was facilitated by Mabin Ghale of World Vision International Nepal (WVIN). Ghale shared the working area of WVIN first the facts of child marriage in the world. 'Nepal is 10th in world and 3rd in Asia in the rank of child marriage' he said. Child marriage is multi sectorial issue, it directly effects on education, health, skills, opportunity and family he added. First priority against the child marriage is campaign for prevention, empowerment of the youth, protection, partnership and advocacy, Ghale said. 'Poverty, no education, social sites are the problems for child marriage.
The fourth session was facilitated by News chief of the CIN, Govinda Khadka. His session was focused on possible reporting issues against the child marriage. His suggestions for the reporting issues were:
