Radio Asia conference and 6th ABU Radio Song Festival on 29-31 October 2019 concluded in Dhaka Bangladesh. The conference and festival was hosted by Bangladesh Bettar (BB) and Bangladesh Television (BTV) in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The theme of the conference was “Radio All around Us: More than just a medium.” The three day event included thought provoking sessions, showcases, workshops, master class on media literacy and debate on the value of Radio in the digital age.
More than 130 participants from different countries from Asia Pacific region were participated in the program. On behalf of ACORAB, senior vice president Arjun Giri, vice president Arjun Rai and Bhuban Singh, were participated in the program. Vice president Mr. Arjun Rai delivered the presentation on 'turning up the Volume - Nepal: Community Radio empowering indigenous communities in Nepal'. The conference was formally inaugurated by the minister of information of government of the people's republic of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mahmudh. He welcomed all the foreign delegates and participants and thanked organizer for conducting the program in Bangladesh.
Organizer provided the token of appreciations to the ACORAB Nepal for its participation and wonderful presentation about the indigenous people of Nepal and role of community radios for their empowerment. It was the great forum to share and exchange the practices of radios around Asia Pacific. There were many must-attend sessions and discussions at this three-day conference, including demonstrations and information booths to provide more knowledge and benefits for the development of the radio industry in the years to come.
The most pulling session of the conference was the great debate on future of the radio on 30th October where one groups put their logic arguing that, the age of the radio has turned in the digital age and another group made defense saying the importance and vital role of the radios now and future. The stall of the radios was best outside the conference. Radio Song festival has concluded on 31st October 2019. The next program of Radio Asia and song festival will be organized in Indonesia on June 2020.
