ACORAB Nepal is committed to strengthening institutional governance of community radios and is implementing institutionalization of social accountability of community radios in Nepal. Community radios can effectively serve as the legitimate watchdog for social accountability issues, ensuring that they work as agents of social transformation at the community level while themselves operating within the parameter of social accountability principles.
Community radios are working for people by facilitating them to exercise their rights to information, sharing ideas and generating worth and dynamic public opinions as social assets. With the aim to build capacity of radio journalist on social accountability, ACORAB Nepal organized nine trainings programme on “Radio Journalists' Training on Social Accountability”. The trainings were conducted at Palpa, Kaski, Chitwan, Dharan, Bardibash, Kathman du, Kailali, Surkhet and Pyuthan.
The major components of training included human rights, democracy & leadership, rule of law, social accountability, ethical standards and safety of journalist. The four days training module was prepared on the basis of Social Accountability Status of Community Radio. A booklet has been developed incorporating theoretical and conceptual issues related to social accountability with a view that it will be a resource material to all the community radios as a manual for training and facilitation and a reference document for radios in understanding and maintaining accountability measures at institutional level. All together 220 radio journalist were benefited from training program. Among the 170 participants 50 were female.
