ACORAB Nepal and BBC Media Action jointly organized a five-day technical training from 29th December, 2014 to 2nd January, 2015 in Nepalgunj for community radios of Mid-Western Region. The training was focused on basic technical skills and insights which are required to solve common technical problems of a radio station.
The training was a part of capacity building program being carried out by ACORAB Nepal and BBC Media Action’s for community radios and its staffs through enhancing technical skills of radio technicians. Altogether 24 participants from 23 community radio station across the Mid-Western Region participated in the program. Inclusive participation was reflected in the training where three women, five Janajatis, two Madhesi have participated. The training course covered topics related to audio editing software, studio equipment, studio wiring, FM transmitter, earthing, surge protector devices, electrical wiring and backup system. This training emphasised on practical session, where participants learned to measure all the electrical as well as electronics devices by using multi-meter. They were taught about audio cable and connectors soldering and preparing studio cable in a technically appropriate manner. ACORAB Nepal and BBC Media Action provided digital multi-meter, soldering iron rod, cutter, plier, screw, wire stripper to each participants for their basic studio propose.
Training concluded with the establishment of ACORAB's regional hub in the Mid-western region. Mr. Mohan Chapagain, President of ACORAB Nepal handed over the tool sets to the Station Manager of Radio Krishnasar, Tula Adhikari for the establishment of Mid-Western technical regional hub.
Mr. Radeep Maharjan, Sr.Technical Officer, Mr. Subash Pant, Technician from ACORAB Nepal and Mr. Prakash Ghimire, Sound Technician from BBC Media Action facilitated the training. At the end of the training, participants have expressed their commitments to share their knowledge with colleagues in the districts to improve the level of technical quality.
